Shane Werts
Shane Werts currently serves as Professor of Oboe at Colorado State University - Pueblo where he performs with the faculty woodwind quintet and teaches courses in applied oboe. He is currently a Doctoral Candidate at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music with a minor in Music Theory where he studied with Roger Roe and Linda Strommen. Shane maintains an active private studio and performing schedule.
Shane has a substantial background in music education. He has previously been the Associate Instructor of Oboe at Indiana University, as well as the band director at Summit Middle School in Frisco, Colorado; and at Gypsum Creek Middle School in Gypsum, Colorado. He maintains a private studio composed of musicians ages six and up who play a variety of instruments. He collaborates with Breckenridge Music to serve the musical community of Summit County. Additional former teaching experiences include teaching at Stafford Music Academy (Bloomington, IN) and at the Parlando School of the Arts (Boulder, CO).
Shane has performed with numerous orchestras including the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, New World Symphony, Boulder Philharmonic, and more. He has also toured internationally performing chamber music with the Colorado State University Faculty at venues in Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary. Shane can be heard playing principal oboe under the Naxos label on the 2018 Grammy Nominated album performing 20th Century Orchestra Music with the National Orchestral Institute Festival Orchestra.
Shane has earned degrees from Colorado State University - Fort Collins (Bachelor of Music Education) and Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (Master of Music). Shane's professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Education, and the International Double Reed Society.
